Dominique Washington stands next to her fan of streamers. The fans were used during the weather scene to recreate and simulate the dangerous and hazardous weather conditions one encountered while exploring on the ice pack. 

This weather condition was known to Matthew as "Kokoya"! Subfreezing temperatures, sometimes as much as 60 degrees below zero!
